Volunteers are the life's-blood of ChathamArts. Without the dedicated work of people who volunteer their time and talents to our organization, our gallery, services and arts events would not be possible.

Community Event Volunteer


ChathamArts is recruiting volunteers to help with community events such as ClydeFest, workshops such as our Writer’s Series, and fundraisers.

Gallery Volunteer

Opportunities for volunteering in the gallery include:

  • Greeting customers and writing up sales in the gallery
  • Organizing and setting up refreshments for First Sundays
  • Assisting with hanging and removing shows and special exhibits
  • Clerical and computer tasks
  • Periodic painting and maintenance in the gallery
  • Interviewing artists and writing up special press releases
  • Help out with special events and fundraisers
  • Serve as a gallery committee member

Gallery Student Intern Program

ChathamArts offers internships in ChathamArts Gallery to high schools students studying art in Chatham County. The Student Intern Program offers the students the opportunity to meet and interact with professional artists and to learn both the business and community service functions of ChathamArts.

Examples of internship duties include:

• generating and updating data spreadsheet to collect statistics
• collecting and organizing artist information for Artist Bio book
• preparing artworks and assisting in creating exhibits
• working sales and greeting customers during first Sunday receptions.

Student testimonials describe their experience as rewarding and helpful for college and scholarship applications, as well as subsequent job interviews.

Previous student interns that have showed their work in ChathamArts' student exhibit have gone forward to pursue careers in art, at schools including North Carolina State University School of Design and Architecture, Eastern Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill art departments, and national design institutes.
