Handspun yarns, purses, sweaters and vests are some of the fiber arts on display in the ChathamArts Gallery during November. Stained glass, handblown glass and fused glass, created by some of the county’s finest glass artists, are also featured in the annual Fibers, Textiles and Glass Show. You can meet the artists during a gallery reception on November 4, from 12 noon to 5, when Pittsboro galleries, shops and eateries will be open for First Sunday, with arts and crafts for sale on the street. Jonathan Davis – Locally Grown Art offers distinctive glass creations and glassblowing classes by artist and instructor Jonathan Davis. From sculpture and wine goblets to paperweights and jewelry, his work incorporates a wide variety of techniques and styles, ranging from complex color transitions with organic shapes to simple contrasts of black and white with symmetrical forms. For more information about this obscure art form, please visit www.LocallyGrownArt.com Nancy Ferguson – Combining the visual arts with science, particularly chemistry and physics, contributed to Nancy’s artistic growth as a jewelry designer. Each exciting piece of her fused glass jewelry is one-of-a-kind, and expresses her love of color, abstraction and design. Gretchen Niver - Gretchen Niver began working in stained glass 25 years ago, and for the past 12 years has been exploring the opportunities of glass fusing. "The possibilities of designing with glass are endless - bowls, panels, ornaments, color, texture, nature, abstracts…" Pat Randorf – Hand dyeing, spinning and knitting have been the focus of this fiber artist’s work for 35 years. Taking her inspiration from nature, Pat’s color ways reflect impressions received from her varied observations: the nuances of water flowing over river rock; mosses clinging to tree trunks; the ocean’s changing moods; the explosion of new growth on spring plants. Lyn Sims – "My work utilizes the innovative use of color, texture and stitch design. I find excitement in watching harmonies develop as shades play with one another and with the overall development of the garment. I believe in using the best yarns available to me, finding that if it’s worth knitting, it’s worth using fine yarns." |
