Lorin Fields, Fiber
What is it about color that transforms us? Whether it a bright primary or a pure jewel tone, maybe a monochromatic palette of subtle hues. Color is paramount and has always remained a constant in my work. Dyeing yields itself to multiple layers of values and through this saturation process, I am able to create the multiple patterning that is evident in several of my collections. While it may appear chaotic from the outside looking in, I thrive on the orchestrated stages from white to brillant color. By adding textural elements in the form of resists prior to dyeing or printmaking onto the surface, the compositions further develop to essential one of a kind pieces. Blend, coordinate, mix, overlap, layer, print, stamp, texture, and by this, essential color which juxtaposes such interpretations that we as individuals perceive when we view it, be that motivating, calming or introspective.
